SPMP series

The SPMP3050A is a highly integrated processor targeting to portable multimedia application. It embeds a powerful ARM-based CPU and a rich set of peripherals, which makes a wide variety of application easy to implement. Typical multimedia applications are all feasible with the SPMP3050A platform, including digital still camera, digital video camera, gaming, music player, U-disk, etc. With the SPMP3050A, the portable multimedia device can even be used as a PC camera when tethered to a PC with a USB cable. In a portable multimedia system, the SPMP3050A is a host controller. The chip can boot execution programs from the NAND-type Flash memory.

The SPMP3050A features a powerful Color DSP based on Sunplus Digital Still Camera technology. It allows the portable multimedia to be connected to a senor with YUV data output or raw data Bayer-pattern output. The dedicated Color Processing Engine not only enhances the image quality of the camera function but also makes a variety of image special effects possible. The maximum resolution is 6 million pixels. The SPMP3050A also supports PWM zoom/auto-focus lens control and flash light strobe control.

Both still image codec and video codec are implemented in the SPMP3050A’s MJPEG engine. The still image codec is compliant with JPEG standards. Combined with the SPMP3050A’s color DSP, the JPEG engine can process the image compression with extremely high speed. It minimizes shot-to-shot delay when taking pictures. The video codec can support MPEG4 simple profile, H.263 and motion-JPEG video encoding and decoding. The output file formats of the recorded video include 3GP, MPEG4, ASF and AVI format. The resolution of video recording is up to VGA.

The audio module of the SPMP3050A contains a polyphonic sound generator. This sound generator can produce high quality tones, enriching multimedia application on portable multimedia devices. Also, a high quality 16-bit stereo ADC/DAC is embedded to reduce system cost.

The 2D graphics engine accelerates the MMI, resulting in a better user experience. The SPMP3050A also supports native games based on its 2D graphics engine. The native game solution is proven to be more efficient and power-saving in producing exciting game titles.

The embedded USB 1.1 full-speed controller and transceiver can be configured as a USB host or USB device. It support USB MSDC standard, making the portable multimedia device a U-disk. With the USB ISO pipe supporting, the SPMP3050A can even turn the portable multimedia device into a PC camera.

The SPMP3050A Storage Media Interface supports all typical media cards on the market, including SD card/SDIO interface, MMC/MMC4.0 card. It also supports NAND-type Flash memory.

Other peripherals like UART, timers, ADC, key pad input and GPIO are all integrated in the SPMP3050A, making system application as flexible as possible.
